As the dust settles on what has been our most exhilarating CrossFit Open yet, we at Onyx Tribe CrossFit are filled with pride and joy. This year, 85 dedicated athletes took part, making it a record-breaking event for our community. The energy, enthusiasm, and sheer determination displayed by everyone involved were truly inspiring.
Our intramural CrossFit Open featured three spirited teams: Despicable Dan's, Don't be a Dick, Dastardly' s, and Average Joes. Each team brought their unique flair and competitive spirit to the table, participating in a variety of fun and challenging tasks, from "Say That Phrase" to "The Great Onyx Bake Off." In the end, Despicable Dan's team emerged victorious, but the real triumph was the collective achievement of our community.

Celebrating Personal Bests and Firsts
Throughout the three weeks of the Open, we witnessed 85 individuals pushing their limits, achieving new personal bests, and stepping out of their comfort zones. It was particularly heartwarming to see several members participating in their first CrossFit Open, alongside more seasoned athletes. The progress made by each person was remarkable, and the camaraderie and support shared among everyone were the highlights of the event.

Recognizing Outstanding Achievements
We are thrilled to recognize the incredible efforts and achievements of our members:
Sharon won our "Out of Comfort Zone" award for giving her absolute best despite being incredibly nervous about taking part. She thrived and inspired us all!
Amanda, Ceri, and Greg received awards for being the most committed team members of Average Joes, Despicable Dan's, and Dick Dastardly' s, respectively.
A massive congratulations to Piers and Sarah for winning this year's bake-off! This year, each team chose a male and female baker to tackle a millionaire's shortbread and a bakewell tart. We commend the bakers for their efforts, providing dedicated video proof of their bakes, and for feeding the many who joined us for the quiz night. It was a very close call to choose a winner, but well done to all who took part and for sharing your bakes with everyone!
Our most helpful person awards went to Alex, Matt, and Cristina for their many hours of volunteering in judging, organising, and being general good sports.
Our final award went to Graham, who epitomises positivity and enthusiasm. Graham helped judge throughout both Friday and Monday evenings and brought such support whenever he came to the gym. He truly embodies the spirit of the Open.

The Power of Determination and Consistency
The determination, dedication, and consistency shown by our members in the lead-up to the Open were truly admirable. This experience has reinforced the belief that keeping it simple and working hard both inside and outside of the gym is where real results come from. The incredible companionship and support that the Open fostered have brought us closer together as a community.
Looking Ahead to the Community Cup
As we reflect on the success of the CrossFit Open, we encourage all our athletes to consider taking part in the next stage: the Community Cup, from June 9th to 15th. This event features three workouts across just one week, offering another opportunity to challenge yourself and continue your fitness journey. This time, scores will be categorized by the level achieved in the Open, allowing members to compare their scores against like-for-like athletes. It's a fantastic opportunity to see just how far you've progressed, and if you needed even more persuasion, here's a great article for why we should get involved! The Community Cup in June also allows us enough time to reflect on our strengths and weaknesses, enabling us to work hard on these elements and strive to be even better versions of ourselves.
A Note from the Coaches
As coaches, we derive immense joy from seeing our members progress and support one another. The past few weeks have been a testament to the strength and unity of our community, and we can't wait to see what the coming days, weeks, and months hold for each of you. Keep pushing your limits, stay dedicated, and remember that the journey is just as important as the destination.
Here's to more unforgettable moments at Onyx Tribe CrossFit!
